In the final days of the 2026 Winter Olympics, the U.S. women’s Hockey Team secured a stunning 2-1 victory against Canada in a riveting showdown. It marked the third time the U.S. women’s hockey team has earned gold, and it also made history: 22-year-old team member Laila Edwards became the first Black woman to ever win a gold medal in women’s hockey. But just days later, the women’s team’s triumph was minimized by none other than the president of the United States. When Trump called the men’s hockey team to congratulate them on their gold medal win and invite them to the White House to celebrate, he joked that he’d “have to” invite the women’s team as well or risk impeachment. It was a cheap remark that undermined the women’s team’s major accomplishment and echoed the misogynistic “locker room talk” that Trump has long drawn criticism for. That’s why we here at Cosmo have decided to balance the scale.
In partnership with Jennifer Bett Communications, we’ve launched a toll-free 24/7 hotline through which you can leave a congratulatory message for the women who brought home hockey gold. If you dial in 1-833-SHE-WON1, you can join the hundreds of people (currently ranging from ages 5 to 67) who’ve already shared messages of support for the U.S. women’s Hockey team and female athletes as a whole.
So far, we’ve heard from senators, activists, hockey coaches, and fans nationwide who’ve been inspired by our national women’s hockey team’s efforts and understand that they deserve the same recognition and respect as their male counterparts. Feel free to give the hotline a call to join them, and keep an eye on Cosmopolitan’s Instagram for highlights from the celebs and supporters who’ve decided to ring in. We can’t wait to hear how much this team’s victory meant to you.
